Fred Matiang’i is the best candidate the United Opposition has to go against President William Ruto in the 2027 Presidential Election.
According to Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, Matiang’i has all the characters that Kenyans are looking for in 2027.
“I believe Fred Matiang’i is the presidential candidate who will deal with William Ruto ‘one-touch’. Matiang’i attracts support from across all tribes, all regions and all cadres of the society. Kenyans are saying they don’t want a politician, they want a manager. Matiang’i fits the bill,” Kioni said in an interview with TV47’s Abubakar Abdullahi.
Matiang’i attended the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference on Friday, September 26, perhaps an indication that the Uhuru Kenyatta-led party had settled on the former powerful Cabinet Secretary as its presidential candidate in 2027.
During the NDC, Uhuru vowed that the party was embarking on a journey of revamping, new members recruitment, in preparation to the 2027 General Election. Jubilee, Uhuru said, will front candidates in all elective seats.
In his interview on TV47, Kioni acknowledged that indeed Jubilee is part of the United Opposition.
“We [Jubilee] are part of the United Opposition in the informal way, because for now it is not a formal grouping. There is no legal document that is binding us. We just heard Kalonzo Musyoka saying technically he is in Azimio Coalition.”
However, Kioni was quick to point out that Jubilee will team up with any other like-minded individuals. And in the event that Jubilee will feel that the United Opposition is not fit for purpose, Kioni said the party will go its separate way. “William Ruto did not have a coalition in 2022, he did it alone. He only invited akina Musalia Mudavadi towards the end. That is a lesson to us as Jubilee Party.”
