Genge artist Major Nameye Khadija popularly known by his stage name ‘Mejja’, is known for his storytelling and humorous lyrical style.
In an exclusive interview with Radio47 on Thursday, May 29, Mejja mentioned that he is going to release a new album that is going to feature upcoming artists, giving fresh voices a platform while promising fans a sound that is different from anything they have heard before.
“Hii album si venye unafikiria,” he said with his trademark charisma. “Kuna pahali hadi naimba, nimeimba mbaya… nimetoa hadi mishipa huko.”
The ‘Tabia za Wakenya’ hitmaker revealed that he has been postponing the release of his new album because many want to become part of it.
According to Mejja, this is presents a challenge of his album launch ending in a whimper, yet he wants to keep his fans anticipating.
Mejja reminds every artist the power of taking a break. The hitmaker talked about his five months of silence from music, a rare break that was not due to lack of creativity but personal storms behind the scenes.
The emotional weight of losing a manager who was his confidant forced Mejja to re-evaluate not just his team but also his mental and emotional space. “People panic-release music because they think fans will forget them,” he said. “But if you are not okay, then art won’t be either.”
Mejja emphasized that stepping back is not a weakness; it is wisdom. “If I had dropped a song in that state, it wouldn’t be what it is now. You have to fix the issue first.”
Mejja also spoke about collaborations and remixes, saying that he is selective about collaborating with other artists, chemistry being key before any joint project.
