Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has once again stirred headlines with his flamboyant antics, this time over a Champions League clash between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Before the match, Sonko vowed in a viral post to “Leo ni leo, na tukifungwa hii gari inaingia kwa ukuta” (crash his car into a wall) if Arsenal lost to PSG.
The statement, initially taken as one of his characteristic hyperboles, has now turned into a cause for concern and curiosity.
Following Arsenal’s disappointing loss to PSG, Mike Sonko posted a video on Instagram confirming he had followed through on his vow at least symbolically.
“Eeh tumegongwa, sasa hii gari nimegongesha gari kwa ukuta”
“Dashboard ndio hiyo haakuna kitu”
“Mataa yote imeenda, gari imeisha lakini Mungu ananipenda mimi bado niko”, he said, standing next to what appeared to be a damaged vehicle.
However, the video was recorded in the dark, making it difficult to clearly verify the state of the vehicle or the extent of the alleged damage.
While Sonko described a completely wrecked car, the lack of clear visuals has left many online users skeptical.
The post has since gone viral, sparking mixed reactions.
Some fans lauded Sonko for his “commitment” as a diehard Arsenal fan, while others expressed concern over the message it might send, particularly among young followers.
Sonko, known for his flashy lifestyle and larger-than-life social media presence, has long blended politics, entertainment, and drama in the public eye.
Arsenal’s defeat was a bitter pill for many fans but few, it seems, took it as personally or as dramatically as Mike Sonko.
