The Ministry of Education, through the State Department for Basic Education, has released the 2026 term dates for basic education institutions in the country.

In a circular dated October 9, 2025, Basic Education Principal Secretary Amb. (Prof) Julius Bitok directed all regional, county and sub-county directors of education to make sure that the dates are adhered to by all schools within their jurisdiction.

According to PS Bitok, the education administrators are to ensure that the circular is distributed to all the institutions of basic education.

The circular also maintains that activities and visits to secondary schools in third term 2026 remain banned.

Schools will re-open for Term 1 in January 5, 2026, with learners embarking on a 13-week learning until April 2, 2026 when schools will close. In between, however, learners will break for half-term on February 25, 2026 until March 1, 2026.
