Shock and grief gripped Samutet village in Ainamoi Sub-County, Kericho County, after a
19-year-old man hacked to death three family members before being lynched by enraged
residents.
The suspect, identified as Evans Kiprop, reportedly launched the attack around 10:00 a.m. on
Thursday. He first hacked his 70-year-old aunt at her house. He then turned on his sister-in-law who attempted to intervene. A three-year-old girl was also attacked and later died while undergoing treatment at hospital. Police say the motive remains unclear, but investigations are underway.
Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich: Confirmed the sequence of attacks and
said inquiries have been launched to establish the motive.
Local leaders Nixon Kiplangat and Wilson Bett: Condemned the incident, describing the suspect
as a repeat offender previously arrested for crime.
Residents: Linked the tragedy to increased drug abuse and insecurity in the area, urging
authorities to take swift action
The suspect was cornered and lynched by villagers at the homestead shortly after the killings.
