MP Koimburi was a spy, he was not a DCP member – Gachagua party

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) now says that Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi has never been a member of the party.

In a statement, the Rigathi Gachagua-led party refuted reports that MP Koimburi had ditched the outfit and joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), insisting that he was not a member of DCP in the first place, and neither has he been involved in its activities.

While announcing his decision to ditch DCP, Koimburi cited betrayal, having “stood with Gachagua when it mattered most, fought battles for him and paid the price, only to be betrayed at the altar of convenience”.

He said that the final straw came after Gachagua visited Kiamworia AIPCA Church in Gatundu South last Sunday, where he paraded Aloise Kinyanjui — Koimburi’s political rival — to speak to the people, somthing he interpreted as declaring him the DCP candidate for the Juja MP seat in 2027.

The statement from DCP Secretary-General Hezron Obaga, however, says that despite Gachagua been his ally, MP Koimburi has not accompanied him in any public function, while giving all manner of excuses.

Koimburi a spy?

In fact, the party says that Koimburi’s colleages have doubted his loyalty to the DCP course, which is to make President Ruto Kenya’s first head of state to serve for a single term.

“His colleagues have been apprehensive of his loyalty to the cause after information came through that he had been recruited by Willam Ruto to spy on our movements in exchange of slowing down prosecution of 15 criminal cases on land fraud, forgery of academic certificates and self-abduction,” the party alleges.

The party has also revealed of a meeting between Koimburi, former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi and Gachagua at the latter’s private office on Monday, January 12, 2026. In the meeting, DCP says, Koimburi expressed his disbelief and annoyance that the party had welcomed Kinyanjui, and that Gachagua had given him an opportunity to speak to the people at Kimbo Junction on Sunday, January 11.

DCP: Thank you for the support, but no direct nomination

“Hon. Koimburi expressed betrayal that despite having voted against the Ruto’s sponsored impeachment and standing with the party leader in all instances a competitor was being entertained in the party. Hon Koimburi said it was his understanding that all sitting Members of Parliament and the Senate who voted against the impeachment of the party leader would not be subjected to party nominations and would be given direct nominations to contest the 2027 General Elections,” the party added.

It was in that meeting, DCP says, that Gachagua informed Koimburi that much as he appreciated him for voting against his impeachment as Deputy President, the DCP was a democratic party, and it would be “undemocratic to exempt them from party nominations as that would effectively kill the party that is enjoying massive support.”
