ODM MP claims Wamunyoro team hired goons to heckle DP Kindiki in Nyeri

Nyando Member of Parliament (MP) Jared Okello is now accusing Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua of hiring goons to heckle Deputy President Kithure Kindiki during his visit in Nyeri.

DP Kindiki unexpectedly came across a hostile crowd in Othaya, Nyeri County on Wednesday, June 4, which chants of “one term”, (the common slogan used by Kenyans to symbolise presidential regime for only 5 years) renting the air.

According to Okello, the hostile reception was not organic, but rather an organized attack organised by the opposition.

“It is not happenstance that this is happening a day after the President and his deputy received a thunderous welcome in Homa Bay. The Wamunyoro team (a common name used to refer to politicians associated with Gachagua) is still nursing the post-impeachment disorder,” he told Citizen TV in an interview on Thursday, June 5. “They are so shocked that President Ruto can visit the lakeside and receive such a huge welcome.”

The legislator further claimed that the youth who heckled Kindiki were positioned separately from the other citizens, which he referred to as a strategic move that is used in politics. He identified the youths as “hired goons.”

“You can see those few boys chanting ‘Ruto one-term’ were outside the perimeter fence. That in politics is a testament of hired goons to go and cause mayhem,” he added.

The ODM lawmaker stated that the opposition is finding it hard to come to terms with President Ruto’s new-found popularity in Luo-Nyanza and other regions across the country, an indication that he will defend his seat easily in 2027.

“What was conceived as President Ruto can actually be a one-term president, is coming to be the reverse that he has a second chance at the cherry. Demonstrations and signs are out there that he has what it takes to move a particular section of the country in his support in replacement of Wamunyoro who have chosen to disconnect themselves with the country.”
