MP tells Orengo to quit politics and pave way for younger generation to lead

Ugenya member of parliament (MP) David Ochieng wants governor James Orengo to quit politics and pave the way for the younger generation to steer the country.

At the same time Ochieng and Treasury cabinet secretary, John Mbado have accused Orengo of reneging on the democratic ideals he has been preaching for decades by failing to respect the rights of pro – two term supporters.

Speaking at St. Annes Sega Catholic church grounds during a fundraiser in aid of Sega girls secondary school, the duo accused Orengo of hurling abuse at pro- Ruto supporters during his recent visit to Homa Bay.

Ugenya MP who is also the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party leader said it was high time Orengo emulated his agemates who have long left the political scene for the young people.

“I have been hearing Orengo saying that he is the senior most politician in the country. That is true” said Ochieng adding “but his agemates long left the scene. Orengo was in the scene with the likes of Mukhisa Kituyi, Gitobu Imanyara, Kiraitu Muriungi, Musikari Kombo and Martin Shikuku”.

Ochieng told Orengo to respect the ideals that he and other Kenyans fought for; the freedom of choice and expression and allow Kenyans to canvas support for the candidates of their choice.

He said Nyanza can no longer afford to be at war with the government, adding that it was time for the residents to sit down with the government and plan for their economic development.

Treasury cabinet secretary, John Mbadi who was the chief guest during the occasion warned leaders against turning Nyanza into a battlefield.

He lamented that some leaders were crisscrossing the region in company of armed goons who kill and maim innocent members of the community.

“We are giving a stern warning to leaders who are old enough to appreciate that our people need not be killed and are moving around with boys armed with pangas,” said Mbadi.
