Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for reforms to shorten public participation processes, saying lengthy consultations are delaying policy implementation and slowing Kenya’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday 21st July, Mudavadi urged Parliament to help streamline the policy-making process by reviewing the legal framework governing public participation.
“If we don’t have a way of managing even the framework of public participation and Parliament, I am coming back to you to help us. Please help us reduce this extremely elongated process of public participation. We cannot be going through public participation on a policy for three to four years and expect to get to Singapore,” Mudavadi said.
He noted that while public participation remains important, prolonged processes have delayed the implementation of key government projects, including the Affordable Housing Programme.
During the meeting, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said involving all political parties in national decision-making would promote unity and strengthen the country’s long-term development agenda.
Kindiki added that agriculture and production will remain the key pillars of Kenya’s transformation into a first-world economy.
The remarks were made after President William Ruto received a report on strategic proposals to guide Kenya’s long-term national transformation beyond Vision 2030 at State House, Nairobi.
