Security forces have dealt a significant blow to drug traffickers and contraband dealers following a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations across three regions, resulting in the arrest of eleven suspects and the seizure of narcotics, illicit alcohol, and contraband goods worth millions of shillings.
In Mombasa, a joint team drawn from the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit, Kenya Police, NACADA, and KRA descended on the Likoni area targeting drug and contraband networks.
At a rental house in Corner Mpya Estate, officers arrested Johnson Onderi, Felista Ratemo, and Margret Wanjiku, who were found distilling and packaging a substance they had fraudulently branded as SMART Vodka. KRA stickers and distilling equipment were also recovered at the scene.
The team then moved to the Shika Adabu area where Charles Onderi and Hezron Migiro were nabbed in possession of substances suspected to be heroin and a narcotic drug, with a combined street value of approximately Ksh 4.6 million.
Three more suspects Mark Kombo, David Mwangi, and Millicent Bosibori were arrested for possession of uncustomed alcoholic drinks, while a fourth suspect, Tabitha Wangare Mwangangi, was picked up for obstructing officers on duty.
Meanwhile in Nyanza, officers flagged down a Guardian Angel Bus Company vehicle along the Kisumu-Kericho Highway at Awasi following a tip-off that a passenger onboard was ferrying narcotics.
A search of the bus led to the discovery of five bales of green and dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs concealed in bags.
Passenger Daniel Ondiege was arrested and remains in custody awaiting arraignment.
In Nairobi, a third team raided a house in the Mwiki area of Kasarani linked to George Mathenge Kamau, recovering narcotic substances, assorted packaging materials, 43 non-serviceable mobile phones, four non-serviceable iPads, a computer, and Ksh 13,800 in cash.
A further search of a nearby dumpsite unearthed additional narcotics and packaging materials. Kamau was arrested alongside two associates, Josephat Mwangi Njenga and Samwel Nyota Wambui.
All three were booked at Muthaiga Police Station as exhibits were transferred to DCI Headquarters for processing.
The DCI has issued a stark warning to those still involved in the drug trade, stating that their days are numbered as security agencies intensify the crackdown across the country.
