Museveni leading Uganda presidential race; Bobi Wine comes distant second

President Yoweri Museveni is currently leading the Uganda presidential race, with latest data from the Electoral Commission (EC) showing the 81-year-old enjoying a big margin against his competitors.

In an update by the Commission on Friday, January 16 morning from their headquarters in Lubowa, Kampala, EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama said that Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) was leading with 3,960, 438 (76.25%) votes.

Coming second is Robert Kyagulani, popularly known as Bobi Wine, of the National Unity Platform. The pop star-cum-politician has so far ganered 1,312,047 (19.85%) votes.

Results for other presidential candidates

Mugisha Muntu Oyera of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) – 29,504 (0.57%), Nathan Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) – 108,301 (2.08%), Joseph Elton Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP) -10,910 (0.21%), Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party – (15,939) (0.31%), Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP) – 14,742 (0.28%), and Frank Bulira Kabinga of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) – 23,267 (0.45%).

The Commission has so far received results from 22,758 polling stations out of 50,739, representing 44.85%.

The next update on the presidential election will be at 2 pm Friday, January 16.
