NACADA welcomes re-appointment of Bishop Dr. Stephen Mairori as Board chair

President William Ruto has re-appointed Bishop Dr. Stephen Mairori to be a Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

In Gazette Notice No. 263 dated January 9, 2026, President Ruto extended Dr Mairori’s tenure at the NACADA board for another period of three years, with effect from 20th January 2026.

NACADA has welcomed the news of Dr. Mairori’s re-appointment “with gratitude”.

“This reappointment is a powerful demonstration of the President’s firm and unwavering commitment to the renewed, whole-of-government fight against the scourge of alcohol and substance abuse,” NACADA says. “It underscores the national development and security emergency status rightly assigned to this critical war.”

NACADA has further thanked President Ruto for his confidence in the Authority’s leadership. “We equally pledge our full and unwavering support to Bishop Mairori as he continues to steer NACADA’s strategic direction.”

NACADA adds: “His proven dedication, visionary leadership, and deep integrity are invaluable assets as we escalate our efforts towards the actualization of a drug-free nation. Under his continued guidance, NACADA is poised to advance to the next level in safeguarding the health, security, and future of all Kenyans.”

NACADA has been leading a multi-faceted, coordinated national response to drugs and substance abuse across the country, leading raids into drug and illicit brew dens, arrests of suspects as well as the destroying to these harmful substances.

This week, NACADA-led multi-agency operations have led to the dismantling of massive counterfeit/illicit alcohol manufacturing hubs in Emali Town in Makueni County and Joska area in Machakos County.
