Nairobi County unveils LiquorPay: Digital platform that streamlines liquor licensing, eliminates paperwork and brings efficiency

City Hall has unveiled LiquorPay, a fully automated digital platform set to transform liquor licensing in Nairobi by cutting red tape, eliminating manual bureaucracy and delivering faster, more transparent services.

County Executive for Business and Hustler Opportunities Dr Anastasia Nyalita said the platform will remove long-standing bottlenecks in licensing.

“LiquorPay is a fully automated, contactless system. From application and inspection to payment and approval, everything is now integrated, transparent and efficient,” she said.

Chief Officer for Business and Hustler Opportunities Lydia Mathia noted that the system is designed to support entrepreneurs by saving time and reducing uncertainty.

“This brings government services to the trader’s doorstep and removes the frustration of queues and opaque procedures,” she said.

Liquor Board Chair Mike Rabar added that the platform will strengthen compliance and fairness in the sector through data-driven oversight, while Chief Officer for Revenue Tiras Njoroge said integrated digital payments will seal revenue leakages and enhance accountability.

Director of Liquor Licensing Rhoda Otieno confirmed that backend systems have been synchronised to allow real-time inspections, approvals and tracking across all sub-counties, ensuring quicker turnaround for compliant applicants.

The digital shift is part of Governor Johnson Sakaja’s broader push to modernise city services, curb corruption and make Nairobi a more business-friendly city through technology.

Nairobi City County Government, members of the county liquor board and sub-county administrators having been convening in meetting this week for intensive training on the new system. The session aimed to equip licensing officers with the technical and administrative skills needed to shift from paper-based processes to a seamless, end-to-end digital workflow.
