After almost two years of legal battle, a man in Nakuru County has been found guilty of killing his neighbour after he found him in a compromising situation with his wife.
Justice Samuel Mohochi ruled that the prosecution had proved beyong reasonable doubt that Cyrus Kipng’eno Rono killed Moody Awori on the night of August 29, 2023.
“The manner in which the body of the deceased was found is indicative of the depth of violence he suffered at the hands of the accused,” Justice Mohochi noted. “I find the accused guilty of the offence of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, and he is hereby convicted accordingly.”
On the fateful night while Rono was working as a night guard in Kiamunyeki area, he tried calling his wife but she was not answering her phone.
It was after several unanswered calls that Rono decided to excuse himself from work to go and check what the issue was that his wife could not answer her phone.
Upon arriving at his home at around 9 pm, the court heard that Rono knocked at his bedroom door, but his wife was not responding. After a few minutes, his wife would come out of the bedroom looking suspicious.
Curious, Rono scanned through the bedroom, only to spot his neighbour, half-dressed, under the bed. He attacked him with a machete, with autopsy report showing that Awori was stabbed repeatedly on the neck and limbs.
After the attack, Rono surrendered himself to Lanet Police Station and reported the incident.
Rono is now awaiting sentencing.
