Veteran Kenyan artist David Mathenge, popularly known by his stage name ‘Nameless’, has urged fellow musicians in the industry to embrace humility and unity, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and mutual respect in building a strong music culture in the country.
Speaking during an interview on the Baze 47 show on Radio 47, the ‘Inspire’ hit maker encouraged artists to put aside pride and ego, saying that fostering good relationships with both fellow musicians and fans is crucial for personal and collective growth in the music scene.
“I would urge Kenyan musicians to lower their ego and just relate well with one another and fellow Kenyans, who create their fan base,” Nameless stated.
He pointed out that ego often becomes a stumbling block in the industry, preventing artists from working together or reaching their full potential. According to him, humility opens doors to creativity, innovation, and stronger connections with audiences.
The music icon also acknowledged that interacting with uprising Gen Z musicians has helped him, especially in this era where things are very different from when he first began his music journey.
“Working with Gen Z artists has taught me a lot. Their energy, creativity, and how they navigate the digital space is inspiring. I’m learning from them just as much as they learn from me,” he shared.
‘I respect Khaligraph’
Nameless went on to shower praise on celebrated rapper Khaligraph Jones, whom he described as respectful, collaborative, and down-to-earth. He credited Khaligraph’s humility and professionalism for the success of their hit remix, ‘Megarider’.
“I highly respect and recognize Khaligraph Jones. He is one of the best top musicians who doesn’t look down on people. Our remix Megarider was a success because of his contribution and cooperation. I salute him,” Nameless said.
