The nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards have been announced, and once again, Nigerian artists are dominating the African music categories. The biggest battle is set to take place in the Best African Music Performance category, where four of the five nominees are either Nigerian artists or feature them prominently.
The 2026 GRAMMYS ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026.
The list of nominees for this highly coveted award underscores the global influence of Afrobeats and African music genres.
The contenders are: Love (Burna Boy), With You (Davido Featuring Omah Lay), Hope & Love (Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin), Gimme Dat (Ayra Starr Featuring Wizkid) and PUSH 2 START (Tyla)
This heavy Nigerian presence follows a trend set in previous years, cementing the country’s status as a powerhouse of contemporary African music.
African artists have also secured nominations in two other major global categories. Best Global Music perfomance and Best Global Music Album, where two major albums from the continent will compete for this prestigious award: No Sign of Weakness (Burna Boy – Nigeria) and Eclairer le monde – Light the World (Youssou N’Dour – Senegal)
This marks a significant achievement for both West African music legends.
Africa’s most decorated Grammy artist, the Beninese-French singer Angelique Kidjo, is in the running for another award.
She received a nomination for her performance of the track Jerusalema.
Kidjo currently holds the record for the African artist with the most Grammy Awards, highlighting her enduring global impact.
