Nairobi Senator and Linda Mwananchi Movement leader Edwin Sifuna has declared that he is willing to sacrifice his Senate seat if it means helping transform the country, insisting that Kenya’s challenges require more than parliamentary politics.
Sifuna says his focus extends beyond securing Senate re-election in 2027.
“Kushinda kiti ya Nairobi tena 2027 ni rahisi kwa sababu ya kazi yangu, lakini shida ya nchi hii haiko ndani ya Senate. Niko tayari kupoteza kiti cha Senate iwapo tutakomboa hii nchi,” he said during an interview with Mulembe FM on Tuesday, July 21.
The senator argued that national transformation should take precedence over individual political ambitions, maintaining that his commitment lies in advancing the objectives of the Linda Mwananchi Movement.
As part of that agenda, Sifuna unveiled Paybill Number 3033049, calling on Kenyans to finance the movement through small individual contributions rather than relying on wealthy benefactors.
“I’d rather be indebted to 10 million Kenyans because they gave me Sh.10 each than to one person who gave me Sh.1 billion because that is where corruption begins,” he said.
In an apparent response to claims by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, that he was the only one capable of sponsoring him with KSh1 billion to support his campaigns, Sifuna dismissed that, saying, “Atwoli chukua hiyo KSh1 billion yenye ulikuwa upatie Sifuna, urudishie wafanyakazi wapate kila mtu hata kama ni shilingi kumi.”
The Nairobi senator also thanked residents of Western Kenya for rallying behind his movement, describing their support as unprecedented.
“Nashukuru wakazi wa Western Kenya. Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma wote kusema ‘sisi ndio Sifuna’ sio kitu cha kawaida. Wamenipa support sana. I have nothing but gratitude,” he said.
Sifuna further brushed aside claims that he is being sponsored by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Kama mimi ni project ya Uhuru basi niko na pesa, siwanasemanga ananipea, mbona tena wanasema sina pesa. Wachague moja, either niko na pesa ama sina pesa, either niko na sponsor ama sina sponsor,” he said.
His remarks come as the Linda Mwananchi Movement intensifies its grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Sifuna positioning public participation and citizen funding as the cornerstone of the initiative.
