No Kane, no problem: Tottenham produce dominant performance

Tottenham Hotspur have risen to the summit of the Premier League standings with a well-deserved 2-0 win away to top-flight returnees AFC Bournemouth.

Ange Postecoglou who is in his maiden season as Spurs boss saw his charges extend their unbeaten start to the season by a goal in each half of the early kick-off match at the Vitality Stadium.

Ex-Leicester City man James Maddison who shook off an ankle injury sustained in last week’s win at home to Manchester United, marshalled the midfield on the afternoon, breaking the deadlock just moments after the quarter-hour mark.

The English midfielder had made up for the opportunity he had squandered moments before his goal following a costly blunder by home goalkeeper Neto, who did just enough to keep out Maddison’s shot.

The Cherries came back from the interval with a better show but could not match Tottenham’s efforts of the afternoon.

Dejan Kulusevski was on target in the 63rd minute to give the visitors a two-goal cushion thanks to some fine passage of play on the left flank by Destiny Udogie and skipper Heung-Min Son.

Tottenham have played three matches into the new Premier League season, and are unbeaten. They have scored two goals in each of the three matches.

A two-all draw at Brentford on the opening day, a 2-0 win at home to Manchester United last weekend, and Saturday’s 2-0 win at Bournemouth. This return has thrust them to the top spot on the log.

They have done this without their long-serving captain and established goal machine Harry Kane who they sold to Bayern Munich for £100m.

The hosts search for a first win since their return to the English Premier League goes on. Andoni Iraola’s quest for a first win as Bournemouth head coach remains unfulfilled.

They have played three games with the best of football at display but the return has been a single point from a possible nine. They drew the opener 1-1 with West Ham, lost 3-1 at Liverpool, and have now lost 2-0 to Spurs.
