A man in Nairobi has been sentenced to death after the a Kibera court found him guilty of two counts of robbery with violence.
Isaac Khanga was found guilty in a case where he was accused of robbing mobile phones worth a combined KSh39,000, as well as cash totaling to KSh30,000.
The court heard that Khanga committed the robberies separately on the night of November 3, 2024, within Kawangware Madiaba area, in Dagoretti Sub-County.
In the first case, the court heard that Khanga (and his accomplices) snatched a mobile phone (Tecno model) worth KSh24,000 alongside KSh30,000. In the second incident, Khanga robbed another phone valued at KSh15,000 from a passerby.
The court noted that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), led by Counsel Ann Murage, proved the case against Khanga beyond reasonable doubt.
While delivering her ruling, Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi noted that Khanga committed the robberies with others not before the court. However, she opted to focus solely on Khanga’s individual offense.
Consequently, Magistrate Njagi handed the accused two death sentences, one for each count. The sentences will be served in abeyance.
Khanga was first charged on 15 November 2024.
