A wave of shock and outrage swept through Vatican village in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, following the brutal murder of a local egg vendor and mother of three, whose body was discovered in her rented home on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The victim, who was identified as Moureen, was found lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit.
Area MCA Daniel Gitau, confirmed the incident, stating that he was alerted by residents shortly after 4 p.m on Monday.
“We received distress calls from Vatican Village reporting a murder. Upon arrival, we found the woman had been killed — her throat had been slit,” he reported.
Nyandarua Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that investigations are underway, but no arrests have been made so far.
The MCA encouraged the public to share any information that could help in the investigations and identification of the suspect.
Human rights advocate and Nyandarua resident Betty Muchina, condemned the incident and the authorities for what she termed a slow response to such crimes.
“Femicide cases in Nyandarua are alarmingly common, yet justice often comes too late — if at all… We are demanding swift and transparent investigations. Justice delayed is justice denied,” she said.
The body of the deceased has been moved to JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital Mortuary as police continue with their investigations.
