Ochieng’ challenges Nyanza leaders to ditch personality politics and focus on development

Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) Party Leader David Ochieng’ has challenged regional and national leaders to move away from personality-driven politics and chest-thumping, calling instead for a policy-centered approach to governance.

Speaking during a political rally in Segere, Alego Usonga Sub-County, the Ugenya Member of Parliament emphasized that political alignments must be anchored on tangible development agendas rather than blind loyalty or ethnicity.

”Let us stop chest-thumping. Let us stop talking down to our people and instead engage them with reason,” Ochieng’ told the gathering.

The MDG leader defended his party’s grassroots framework, pointing out that the movement champions ideas and competitive manifestos.

Explaining his political stance, Ochieng’ noted that his support for President William Ruto’s administration is driven by a desire to unlock critical development for the region rather than seeking short-term political convenience.

”Let’s engage the President and the government on a proper agenda to unlock the lake region, unlock our agricultural potential, unlock tourism, and unlock our water and healthcare potential,” he stated.

He stressed that two-term limits should not be treated as an end in themselves, but rather as a window to deliver essential public goods.

Ochieng’ outlined an ambitious local economic blueprint for Siaya County, identifying persistent challenges in access to clean water, health services such as cancer treatment and diagnostic facilities and agricultural value addition. He proposed establishing local processing plants, including fish factories, cotton and textile mills, sugar factories, and animal feed manufacturing units to spur local employment.

Furthermore, the lawmaker advocated for structured investments in youth talent, proposing dedicated sports academies and arts studios to support local youth who lack structured spaces for professional growth.

Ochieng’ challenged fellow politicians to abandon divisive rhetoric and engage the electorate with reasoned blueprints that directly address the socio-economic needs of ordinary citizens.
