ODM elections delayed again in Kakamega amid leadership wrangles

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party elections in Kakamega County are yet to commence, despite being scheduled for Monday September 1, 2025 in the morning.

The exercise has been delayed after two rival factions led by governor Fernandes Barasa and Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera failed to agree on the mode of voting.

The elections, which were initially set for August 25, were postponed after a similar stalemate.

Governor Barasa has been pushing for the queuing method, while MP Nabwera insists on a secret ballot.

By midday on Monday, the leaders had not reached a consensus, leaving thousands of party supporters frustrated.

Many broke into song and dance, accusing the leaders of dragging the process and holding the party hostage.

If the deadlock persists, the much anticipated ODM county elections risk being postponed for a second time.
