“ODM leadership will destroy President Ruto’s campaign” – Alai wonders why Sifuna is still Sec-Gen

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai cannot fathom why Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is still enjoying special privileges accorded to the Office of the ODM Party Secretary General.

Alai says that Sifuna still drives in an official vehicle given to him by the Orange Democratic Party (ODM), despite as recent Special Delegates Convention, faulting the ODM leadership of not taking a firm decision.

According to the MCA, the ODM SDC held at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi on Friday, March 27 should have had a single agenda.

“The leadership of ODM will destroy President Ruto’s campaign. ODM Special NDC should have had a single agenda—Removal of Sifuna as [Secretary General],” Alai said, in a statement on his X account on Sunday, March 29.

Alai was referring to a picture of Sifuna, flanked by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi atop a vehicle in one of the Linda Mwananchi rallies.

“Edwin Sifuna is still on the rooftop of ODM SG’s official Prado KCW and he is using the vehicle to insult Oburu, Junet and Wanga while they look from the sidelines scared of him. We are destroying ODM. Baba told us that punishment must be instant and decisive.”

But as the ODM Linda Ground wing led by Party Leader Oburu Oginga was holding its SDC at Jamhuri Grounds, the Sifuna-led ODM Linda Mwananchi faction was holding a parallel National Delegates Conference at Ufangamano House.

During the parallel NDC, Sifuna said he will not take up the role of Secretary General under Oburu.

“Oburu, look for your own SG. After Baba Raila Odinga, you … don’t deserve me!” Sifuna said.

The rebel faction, which also includes MPs Babu Owino, Antony Kibagendi and Caroli Omondi, made it clear that while they respect Oburu as an elder, they do not recognise him as their leader.
