Ol Kalou MP-elect Sammy Kamau Ngotho has condemned the reported killing of two of his constituents during the recently concluded Ol Kalou by-election, calling for justice and accountability.

In a statement, Ngotho said it was heartbreaking that two young men lost their lives while exercising their democratic right to vote, insisting that no election is worth the loss of innocent lives.

According to the MP-elect, James Muigai Mwathi of Kaimbaga Ward was allegedly beaten at Mumbi Primary Polling Centre, while Zachariah Gakinya Mukora, a truck driver from Rurii Ward who had just returned home to cast his vote, was reportedly beaten to death outside Huho-ini Polling Station before he could reunite with his family.

Ngotho alleged that the attacks were carried out by armed thugs in the presence of security agencies and demanded justice for the victims and their families.

“It is with deep sorrow that I condemn the brutal killing of two of our constituents during the Ol Kalou by-election. No election is worth the loss of innocent lives,” he said.

The MP-elect also expressed concern over what he described as the silence of the government and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) despite reports of violence, deaths and injuries during the election.

“It is deeply disappointing that, despite the violence witnessed during the election, the Government and the IEBC have remained largely silent on the killings and the many people who were injured,” he said.

Ngotho maintained that political violence should have no place in Kenya’s democracy, adding that those responsible must be held accountable.

He concluded by paying tribute to the two victims, saying, “May the souls of James Muigai Mwathi and Zachariah Gakinya Mukora rest in eternal peace.”

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the reported killings.
