One person has been rescued from the rubble of a collapsed building in Eastleigh, Nairobi, and taken to Kenyatta National Hospital as emergency teams continue searching for possible survivors.
The Kenya Red Cross announced the rescue on Saturday, October 24, 2026, saying its teams and partners remained at the scene coordinating efforts to locate people who may still be trapped beneath the debris.
In a post on its X account, the humanitarian organisation said the rescue marked a breakthrough in the ongoing operation.
“A breakthrough in Eastleigh. One person has been rescued from the collapsed building and taken to Kenyatta National Hospital. Our teams and partners are not stopping,” the organisation stated.

The rescue comes after an 18-storey building under construction collapsed along 9th Street in Eastleigh, prompting an emergency response as authorities and humanitarian teams work to establish whether other people remain trapped.
The identity and condition of the rescued person had not been disclosed by the Kenya Red Cross at the time of the announcement.
Earlier, the Kenya Red Cross reported that it had recorded 31 missing-person cases following the collapse.
Disaster Officer Vincent Ochieng said two people had already been reunited with their families, while contact tracing efforts continued to establish the whereabouts of those reported missing.
“We have recorded 31 missing-person cases, and two people have already been reunited with their families,” Ochieng said.
The organisation noted that the reports were still being verified, as some workers who had been at the construction site may have left before the building collapsed.

The verification process is expected to help establish how many people were at the site when the structure came down and identify those who remain unaccounted for.
The Kenya Red Cross has established a disaster operations centre in Eastleigh to coordinate the response and provide psychosocial support to affected families.
Rescue teams and their partners continue searching the rubble as relatives await updates on missing loved ones.
While the latest rescue offers hope, the number of people who may still be trapped remains unclear, with emergency operations ongoing.
