Manchester United are looking ahead to the upcoming season with renewed focus and a sense of unity, as highlighted by defender Luke Shaw.
Speaking recently, Shaw emphasized the team’s unwavering ambition to win the Premier League, a goal he states is shared by the entire squad and manager Ruben Amorim.
This strong backing from the players comes as the club navigates a period of significant change under Amorim’s leadership, following a challenging previous season.
Shaw lauded Amorim’s strict approach, noting that the manager “leaves no stone unturned” and ensures there are “no stragglers” in the group.
This philosophy, which prioritizes the team above all else, has seemingly fostered a strong sense of cohesion, with Shaw describing the squad as feeling like a “real team” and a “family” driving in the same direction.
After an “awful” previous season, Shaw’s personal ambition is to remain fit and be a constant option for the manager.
Ruben Amorim took the reins at Manchester United in November 2024, following a successful period at Sporting CP where he boasted an impressive 88.9% win rate in his first 18 matches of the 2024-25 season.
However, his initial impact at Old Trafford has been more challenging.
In 41 games as United boss, Amorim has secured just 16 wins, drawn 8, and suffered 17 losses, resulting in a 39% win rate.
The team finished 15th in the Premier League, scoring 44 goals and conceding 54 in the process.
While their Premier League form has struggled, with a 25.93% win rate (7 wins, 6 draws, 14 losses in 27 games), Amorim’s side showed promise in the Europa League, achieving a 72.73% win rate (8 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss in 11 games)losing the final to Tottenham Hotspur.
Looking to bolster the squad and support Amorim’s vision for the 2025-26 season, Manchester United has been active in the transfer market.
Key incomings for the 2025 summer window include:
Matheus Cunha (from Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Bryan Mbeumo (from Brentford)
Diego Leon (from Cerro Porteno)
Enzo Kana-Biyik (free agent from Le Havre, though immediately loaned out to Lausanne-Sport)
On the outgoing front, several players have departed or been loaned out: Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans (retired), and Victor Lindelof were released at the end of their contracts.
Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on an initial loan deal.
Youngsters such as Sonny Aljofree, Dan Gore, Joe Hugill, Elyh Harrison, and Radek Vitek have also gone out on loan.
The blend of player backing, a demanding managerial style, and strategic transfer activity signals Manchester United’s intent to turn their fortunes around and compete for top honors in the coming season.
