In a strategic move, Ethiopian authorities have arrested fathers of four suspects linked to the killing of four fishermen in Kenya’s Todonyang area of Turkana County.
The Dassanech security team on the Ethiopian side of the Kenya-Ethiopia Boarder identified the suspects believed to be part of the militia that ambushed the Kenyan fishermen on Thursday, May 15 at around 4 am, when they were casting their nets along Lake Turkana.

Consequently, the authorities proceeded to arrest three fathers of the identified suspects, and are currently in custody in Dassanech.
Ethiopian police say this move is just to ensure communal accountability of the incident that sent shockwaves in Turkana North, and a bid to have the real culprits surrender to authorities.
Authorities have identified the names of the suspects who orchestrated the killings as follows:
- Nyechu Achobe
- Nabotee Ara
- Kelete Atete
- Armiyat Lochoronyang.
“The Dassanech administration remains committed to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in the region,” the police say.
Confirming the incident, Turkana North Deputy County Commissioner Geroge Ochieng said that the bodies were removed to Lodwar mortuary.
In February this year, 20 Kenyan fishermen were killed by suspected militia from Ethiopia in the same area.
