Police intensify security as Easter holiday draws near

The National Police Service (NPS) has assured all Kenyans, residents, and visitors of their safety as the country prepares for the Easter holidays, coinciding with school closures and the ongoing rainy season.

In a press statement, NPS acknowledged that the period will be marked by increased travel, social gatherings, and tourism, all of which present unique security and safety challenges.

The NPS says it has put in place a comprehensive strategy to maintain law and order.

On road safety, the Service has intensified operations in collaboration with other government agencies.

It has urged pedestrians, boda boda operators, and PSV operators to exercise the highest degree of caution to help eliminate road fatalities and injuries.

“We urge pedestrians, boda boda operators and public service vehicles (PSV) operators to exercise the highest degree of caution to help eliminate road fatalities and injuries. Strict adherence to traffic rules, regulations, and safety guidelines is essential. This includes observing speed limits, using designated crossing areas, wearing protective gear such as helmets and reflective clothing, and avoiding risky behaviours such as driving under the influence of alcohol or any other substances, distracted road use, and overloading, among other,” read part of the statement.

The NPS further advised motorists to carry out routine vehicle maintenance to minimise the risk of a road traffic crash due to mechanical failure.

Additionally, the Service has deployed extra personnel and resources to ensure increased police presence, intensified patrols and heightened surveillance in public areas, including shopping malls, places of worship, markets, termini, and critical infrastructure.
