Scene reconstruction at Kericho mass grave ahead of DCI boss Mohamed Amin’s visit

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohamed Amin is expected to visit the Kericho mass grave site on Tuesday March 31, 2026 as probe into the saga intensifies.

Meanwhile, DCI detectives on Tuesday morning embarked on scene reconstruction as part of preparations before the arrival of the DCI boss at the mass grave.

Amin said his visit to the site shows how serious they are with the saga and warned that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted.

Amin will be the senior most security official to visit the scene since the matter became public more than a week ago.

He said so far they are holding up to six suspects over the saga and investigations are ongoing.

Amin’s moves came as Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo distanced his administration from 20 of the bodies exhumed from the mass grave.

Nyaribo said Nyamira County only sanctioned the disposal of 13 bodies in Kericho and released 32,000 shillings to facilitate the process, which he said had been routinely followed over the years.

Meanwhile, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revealed preliminary findings, pointing to possible collusion between Nyamira County health officials and the caretaker of Makaburini Public Cemetery in Kericho county in the ongoing mass grave investigations.

Murkomen termed the incident unacceptable, noting that those implicated have already been arrested as investigations continue.

According to the CS, authorities established that the number of bodies interred exceeded what had been authorised by a court order, raising serious legal and ethical concerns.

Murkomen said those responsible would face the full force of the law once investigations are complete, promising a comprehensive report detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
