A multi-agency security team in Igembe Central, Meru County, has disrupted an illicit brewing operation, recovering hundreds of litres of illegal alcohol during a targeted raid.
The operation, conducted in Irindie Village following a tip-off from members of the public, resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of 600 litres of an illicit brew locally known as βMunaβ and 10 litres of changβaa.
The team targeted three homesteads suspected of being involved in the production of illicit alcohol.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb the production, distribution and consumption of illegal brews across the country.
Authorities said the successful raid demonstrates the importance of timely intelligence and cooperation between security agencies and members of the public in identifying illicit brewing activities.
The National Police Service has continued to conduct multi-agency operations targeting illicit brews and other forms of illegal alcohol, with enforcement efforts focused on disrupting the supply chain.
Police have also urged members of the public to continue reporting cases involving illicit brews, second-generation alcohol and other suspicious activities.
