President Ruto’s housing and market projects in Migori County

President William Ruto is set to embark on a three day working tour of Migori County, a region long considered a stronghold of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

This visit marks his first trip to the county since entering a political pact with Odinga, signaling a strategic move in his broader re-election campaign.

The President is expected to arrive in the county bearing a host of development projects aimed at wooing the region, which largely voted against him in the last general election.

His itinerary includes visits across all eight sub-counties of Migori, where he plans to unveil various infrastructure and economic development initiatives.

A flagship project in his tour will be the launch of an affordable housing project in Kehancha, Kuria West, designed to address the region’s growing housing demand.

This will be the second such initiative in the county. The first phase comprising 60 housing units in Mabera Sub-county, is already 98% complete and has attracted interest from investors within and outside Migori.

Beyond addressing housing shortages, the projects have created job opportunities for local youth and women, many of whom have expressed interest in owning homes in future phases.

This community-driven model has boosted morale and stimulated local economic activity. In addition to housing, President Ruto is also set to inspect and promote several Economic Stimulus Projects that have sparked economic growth across the region.

One key highlight is the Riosiri Market, located on the border of Kisii and Migori counties. Now 90% complete, the market is expected to transform trade for small-scale vendors, particularly those dealing in perishable goods, thanks to the inclusion of modern cold storage facilities.

These development efforts underscore the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and regional equity, even in areas traditionally aligned with the opposition.
