Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has called for the arrest and prosecution of an Alliance Girls High School teacher accused of grooming students for sexual relationships.
The PS said the Ministry in consultations with the Teachers Service Commission and other stakeholders of the prestigious school had resolved to have immediate action taken against the teacher.
“That teacher is going to be punished and interdicted. We have talked to TSC and all other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested, “PS Bitok affirmed.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County, he said the government will ruthlessly implement the zero-tolerance policy on teacher-student romantic relationships.
“No teacher has any business pursuing inappropriate relationships with learners. Any breach of trust will be met with swift disciplinary and legal action.”
The decision to interdict the teacher followed documented allegations by former students of the Kikuyu-based school accusing the teacher of grooming them for sexual liaisons.
The long-serving teacher who served as the patron of the Christian Union allegedly lured the students to his house within the school compound under the guise of preparing for religious events.
The PS said the crackdown against teachers engaging in amorous relations with students will be extended across the country.
“We are committed to upholding learner safety and dignity in all education institutions…including not just Alliance Girls but every school in this country.”
The thanksgiving event that was also attended by PSs Dr. Beatrice Inyangala (Higher Education), Joel Arumonyang (Public Works) and Caroline Karugu (EAC) celebrated the school’s improved academic performance in last year’s KCSE examinations.
Dr. Inyangala assured parents that no student will be denied access to higher education due to lack of finances.
“The new funding approach is equitable, transparent and sustainable. Every parent can now support their child’s education journey without carrying an unbearable financial burden.”
PS Arumonyang said the government was keen on upholding the prescribed construction standards of education buildings.
