PS Mary Muthoni champions health reforms and grassroots engagement

The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, has reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and deepening community engagement through ongoing reforms.

Speaking on Weru TV, Ms. Muthoni outlined key measures under the health sector transformation agenda, including the rollout of the Social Health Insurance scheme.

She highlighted the introduction of the Lipa SHA Pole Pole contribution model, which allows households to make flexible, manageable payments toward their health coverage.

The PS further emphasized the role of Community Health Promoters in advancing preventive care at the household level, noting that their work is critical in ensuring families receive timely health education and connections to essential services.

She also pointed to government initiatives in hygiene promotion and the fight against drug and substance abuse, reaffirming the Ministry’s determination to build healthier, more resilient communities.

In a separate engagement, Ms. Muthoni paid a courtesy call on the Meru County Commissioner, Mr. Jacob Ouma, and the Deputy Governor, Hon. Linda Gakii Kiome, ahead of the Jamii Imara Mashinani initiative.

The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration between the national and county governments in ensuring citizens benefit directly from government programmes.

The Jamii Imara Mashinani programme seeks to deepen citizen participation, strengthen feedback channels, and expand access to key government services at the grassroots level.

According to Ms. Muthoni, joint strategies, including the mobilization of community health promoters, will be central to advancing health outreach and ensuring that the initiative’s impact is felt widely.
