The Raila Odinga Secretariat has dismissed as fake and malicious rumours circulating on social media about the health of former Prime Minister and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.
In a statement on Sunday, October 5 morning, the Secretariat assured Kenyans that Raila is in good health.
The Raila Secretariat is now blaming opposition politicians as the people behind the false and malicious reports, in what it says is an elaborate scheme to cow Raila into joining their alliance.
“The political formation of impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his struggling team of Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, among others, are on a familiar campaign of misinformation on the health of former Prime Minister and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga,” the statement reads in part.
According to the statement, the misinformation is being spread by the same team that was decampaigning Raila in his bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission earlier this year.
“Gachagua, Kalonzo & co have co-opted sections of the traditional media that are happily picking feeds from bloggers, including AI-generated images, and broadcasting them as some kind of investigative Breaking News.
“The hope of this team then and now is to bully Hon. Raila to provide a back for them to ride on in their struggle against President William Ruto.”
The Secretariat insisted that Raila has maintained a tradition of being open to Kenyans with information regarding his health matters, and he will not stop today.
For instance, he told the country that he was undergoing a procedure when he was hospitalized as a sitting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya in June 2010. He told the country that he was diagnosed with Covid and hospitalized as Opposition leader in 2021.
“He would do the same today were he to be in the health situation his opponents wish.”
Raila, the Secretariat says, travelled out of the country on Friday, October 3 evening. However, he has not travelled to Europe as propagated by a section of bloggers, with the Secretariat insisting that he is not indisposed.
“Home or away, Hon. Raila remains committed to the ideals of the Broad Based Government. He remains steadfast in his belief that extreme threats to the nation require extreme compromises in the interest of the nation. We understand his opponents frustration with this.”
