Residents praise road project that will revolutionise Rongai Town

Phase I of the upgrade of the Maasai Lodge–Rimpa Road in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, to bitumen standards has been completed.

The 4-kilometre stretch now seamlessly links Maasai Lodge to the SGR Junction, unlocking smoother movement for thousands of residents.

Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo says that Phase II will extend the road to Rimpa, ultimately connecting to the Bomas–Magadi Road.

“This project is part of the broader programme launched by President William Ruto in April 2023 to tarmac 65 kilometres of critical connector roads across Rongai Town,” PS Omollo says. “Ongata Rongai, a fast-growing peripheral town that directly serves Nairobi, is central to the capital’s expansion.”

By easing traffic, residents say these upgraded roads will improve daily commutes and make Rongai Town more accessible and attractive for businesses and families.

“With Rongai now shedding its “dust-is-constant” tag, and no, the lions don’t actually walk you home, would you consider moving to Ronga?” OS Omollo poses.

Residents reactions

Residents have taken to social media to praise the project and the positive impact it will have in the area.

@AumaObillo says, “As residents of this area of Kandisi, we are indeed genuinely grateful for this as we have awaited the road to be upgraded for many years. #tutam siku zote. we now invite investors to explore this sides and opportunities. Sooner completion of phase II will be grately appreciated.”

Richard Miruka says the road will ease the perennial traffic congestion in the area. “I must admit that this is one of the projects that I have really loved because of how it has eased the traffic congestion along this route. Should phase 2 be completed, this would be a great improvement on this road. Please make sure the road is well marked as well.”
