Known for their prowess in rhumba renditions, pupils from Migosi Primary and Junior Secondary School have perfected the art of retouching rhumba music from legendary popular African artists, reaffirming it’s title as a school of excellence from the Kenya Institutions of Curriculum Development, KICD, with their latest recognition, earning them a five-year talent sponsorship.
Popularly Known as Migosi, the school quickly rose to fame in 2023 through a rendition of the legendary Ndaya’s song titled as ‘Mpongo Love’ and made headlines in the music and drama festival of 2023. Since then, the school has performed dozens of renditions in the festivities, cementing their position at the national levels.
In a colourful event graced by the Kisumu’s Equity Bank branch manager, Javan Odera, Migosi Primary and Junior Secondary School now joins a list of beneficiaries from the region for the next five years, courtesy of Equity Bank, for their remarkable performance at the music and drama festival at the national level.
“Last time, they participated very well in the dance. The dance they did was one of the best in the region and that’s why we are here today to present them a cheque worth Ksh. 50,000 and we are going to do this for the coming five years by sponsoring music and drama festival,” Javan Odera said while handing over a cheque worth Ksh. 50,000 and a branded trophy.
The school also received over 500 tree seedlings to boost its environmental studies as well as enhancing social and environmental sustainability aimed at harnessing and nurturing their talents while empowering them to become environmental champions in line with the competency based curriculum as well as working towards creating a safe environment.
“We have also donated over 500 tree seedlings to the school as one of the pillars that we have in terms of the sustainability of our environmental,” he added.
The money, according to the centre manager, will be used to support not only the needy pupils and students by buying school uniforms but also, support the school feeding program which benefits most learners from needy backgrounds.
“We’ll make for them uniforms, we’ll pay for them lunch through the school’s feeding program as most of the pupils not only come from humble backgrounds but are also needy.” Said the centre manager, Madam Rose Omollo, who also thanked the delegation from Equity Bank and assured her of excelling not only in academic programs but also, in co-curriculum activities.
Migosi Primary and Junior Secondary School becomes the latest beneficiaries in an initiative that will see schools from Nyanza region benefit from the program.
