RFUEA braces for high-tempo action at KRU Women’s 10s festival

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Women’s 10-A-Side Festival will take centre stage at the RFUEA Grounds on January 31, 2026, in a one-day event aimed at strengthening competition and accelerating the growth of women’s rugby in the country.

Organised by the KRU Development Department, the festival will bring together a mix of emerging sides and well-established teams, offering a competitive platform that highlights the steady rise and growing depth of the women’s game in Kenya.

Beyond the action on the pitch, the tournament underscores KRU’s broader commitment to inclusivity and the creation of clear, sustainable development pathways for female players.

The festival is part of the Union’s long-term strategy to expand participation and entrench women’s rugby across different levels of the sport.

The competition will start with pool matches before advancing to the plate semi-finals and the main cup semi-finals.

Teams will then contest the plate final, the third-place playoff and, ultimately, the main cup final, where the tournament champions will be crowned.

A total of ten teams have registered for the festival and have been drawn into two pools of five teams each.

Pool A comprises Mwamba Women, Quins Queens, NYS Spades, Pioneer Gilgil and Murang’a Ladies. Pool B features Northern Suburbs, Blad Babes, NYS Scorpions, Kiamba Ladies and Kisii University.

Kick-off is scheduled for 9:00am with the pool matches, setting the pace for a full day of rugby action. The tournament is expected to conclude at 5:50pm with the main cup final.

Significantly, the festival will also serve as a key build-up event ahead of the 2026 Kenya Cup Women’s League, which is set to begin on February 7, 2026. For participating teams, the tournament offers a valuable competitive benchmark as they prepare for the upcoming XVs season.
