‘Russian tourist’ clips with African women ignite online privacy debate

A man claiming to be Russian and identified online as “Yaytseslav” has sparked widespread debate after dozens of videos allegedly showing his encounters with African women surfaced online.

The clips, reportedly recorded in Nairobi, Kenya, and Accra, Ghana, have been circulating across social media platforms, triggering conversations about consent, safety, and privacy in the digital age.

In the videos, the Caucasian man films himself approaching women in public places such as malls, supermarkets, and walkways. He is seen complimenting them, engaging in brief conversations, and then asking to meet them later the same day or the following day. Subsequent clips appear to show some of the women visiting him in hotel rooms or short-stay apartments.

Notably, the man never reveals his face in any of the recordings, a detail that has intensified criticism online.

Several public figures have condemned the alleged conduct and called for action from authorities.

Kenyan comedian Terence Creative urged investigations into the matter, emphasizing the importance of protecting women’s dignity and privacy.

“This man must respect Kenyan women and their privacy. We won’t keep quiet as our ladies get disrespected. Privacy is key and must be respected,” he said.

Digital creator Gloria Ntanzola criticized the situation from a different perspective, urging women to be more cautious in their interactions.

“Have standards, it’s as simple as that, be inaccessible,” she said, adding, “Having standards is not being a hoe or a gold digger… If you have standards, it protects you from people like that Russian guy.”

Content creator YoungBoySido questioned what he described as unequal dating expectations faced by Kenyan men.

“Kenya ndio uteke dem ndio aende kwako… mmependa mtu wangu hauezi tekwa na lines tatu na unaenda na mimi umeniitisha adi barua ya chief,” he said, adding, “Ni mbayaa.”

Meanwhile, Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai called for the suspect’s arrest, describing the alleged actions as abusive and disrespectful.

“Police should arrest the Russian ASAP. That’s abusive and racist behaviour which shouldn’t be cheered by anyone. The Russian should have been in custody as early as yesterday,” he stated.

The viral videos have divided opinion online. While some viewers expressed shock at how quickly strangers agreed to meet in private spaces, others raised concerns about the legality of secretly recording individuals and distributing such footage online without consent.

As the clips continue to circulate, the controversy has reignited broader discussions about digital ethics, personal safety, and privacy rights in an era where social media interactions can quickly become public spectacle.
