President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 2 outlined his administration’s plan to transform Turkana County, a region he says has lagged behind in terms of development, compared to others.
Speaking when he engaged grassroot leaders from the county at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto pledged that he will not sit back and watch as the county digresses.
“For far too long, Turkana County’s progress has been held back, leaving it to lag behind other regions of our nation,” he noted.

Top of President Ruto’s agenda to transform the county is prioritising its infrastructure, starting with the overhaul of the Maili Tisa–Kitale–Kainuk–Lokichar Road, a lifeline that, he says, will connect the county to greater opportunities and markets.
“We are also powering Turkana’s future through a KSh2.3 billion rural electrification project, constructing a KSh900 million modern stadium in Lodwar, and expanding the Turkwel Irrigation Scheme with a KSh2.5 billion investment that will put more than 100,000 acres of land under productive cultivation,” President Ruto added.
At the same time, the President said that the government was building two modern fish markets worth KSh700 million, upgrading and equipping Lodwar County Referral Hospital, and constructing KSh2.3 billion worth of hostels to ensure university and college students in the region have safe, dignified housing.
During the meeting, President Ruto also challenged the grassroot leaders to accelerate SHA registration in the area to guarantee affordable and quality healthcare for every household.
