Ruto, Sakaja tour Nairobi, vow to fast-track service delivery under cooperation deal

President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson have vowed to continue working together under a newly signed cooperation agreement between the national and county governments aimed at accelerating development in the capital.

The two leaders made the commitment during a Nairobi development tour that began at the Kabete Affordable Housing project, part of the national Affordable Housing Programme, where hundreds of youths have secured employment through ongoing construction.

They later handed over 16 newly constructed classrooms at Kangemi Primary School and commissioned additional classroom blocks at Kihumbuini Primary School in Westlands, projects delivered through joint collaboration.

President Ruto said the partnership is focused on delivering tangible results for city residents and elevating Nairobi to international standards.

“This is the capital city; we must raise it to the standards of a global city. We are addressing lighting, roads, affordable housing, and classrooms. As promised, today you can see the results. We shall be judged not by what we say, but by what we deliver,” he said.

Underscoring the scale of the intervention, the President described the Sh80 billion pact as a decisive turning point in restoring order and efficiency in the city.

“The KSh80 billion cooperation agreement between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government is a bold step to fix the city’s most urgent challenges, inadequate water supply to power connectivity and poor roads. This partnership will restore order, improve living standards and position Nairobi as a clean, functional and investment-ready capital city that reflects the ambition of our nation,” Ruto said.

During the tour, the Head of State also handed over new classrooms at Kihumbuini Primary School and addressed residents at the newly built Kangemi Overpass in Westlands Constituency, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering visible and lasting transformation across Nairobi.

Governor Sakaja welcomed the additional Sh80 billion injection under the cooperation deal, terming it transformative for Nairobi. He said the collaboration is designed to fast-track service delivery and recognize the city’s unique role as Kenya’s capital and economic hub.

“This partnership is service-delivery oriented. The additional Sh80 billion affirms that Nairobi requires a different level of support, not just as a county, but as the face of our nation,” Sakaja said.

The duo further traversed through Kangemi Bridge Stopover, where they addressed residents and promised to deliver on the remaining projects in Nairobi. They later proceeded to Westlands Primary School where they handed over new classrooms to the school.
