President William Ruto on Sunday, March 8 advised Kenyan youth not to allow politicians to cause chaos in the country.
Speaking during the launch of a digital hub in Bondo, Siaya County, President Ruto the error of the political class misusing the youth to settle their scores must come to an end.
“For a very long time the young people of our nation have been used as political tools, goons, bloggers and supporters for politicians. They deserve better. Do not accept anything less,” Ruto said.
But how will Kenya achieve this? According to the head of state, the only way to end this vice was by empowering the youth.
“Do not allow any politician to use your brains and energy to fight and secure votes. Use the opportunities given to you to advance yourselves so that you depend on yourselves,” Ruto added.
He insisted that the youth should take advantage of the many empowerment opportunities his government has put in place, including the affordable housing programme, ICT hubs created in constituencies, the oversees jobs programme just to name but a few.
“We have 540,000 youths who work abroad and they are advancing their lives,” he noted. “About 263 MPs are building ICT hubs in the republic of Kenya because in the ICT sector we can create jobs for young people and they sustain themselves as they contribute to the economy.”
He also urged the youth to use social media platforms to better their lives and skills through the vast creative economy, instead of advancing politicians’ propaganda.
“Let nobody use you to cause chaos or do blogging for them or any political work. You also have children and your own life,” he said.
