President William Ruto has announced that an additional 5,000 housing units will be handed over to families in Mukuru, Nairobi County, by the end of 2025.
Speaking on Tuesday, May 20 when he was handing over 1,080 housing units to Mukuru Affordable Housing beneficiaries in Embakasi South, Nairobi, an emotional President Ruto assured Kenyans of successfully fulfilling his legacy projects not just in the area, but across the country.
“Hapa Mukuru tumepeana nyumba 1,000 za kwanza, Mwezi wa 8 au 9 tutakuja kupatiana nyumba zingine 5,000,” President Ruto said amid cheers and screams from the 1,080 families that received the first batch of housing units.

The head of state said that another 5,000 housing units will be handed over to families in 2026, until all the project is completed.
“Tutarudi tena baadaye mwaka mpya tupatiane nyumba zingine 5,000. Twende hivyo mpaka tujaze watu 13,000 hapa tuwape wananchi nyumba zao.”
The project that sits on a 56-acre land will feature 13,248 residential units upon completion.

The project is located in Mukuru Met Site in South B, just off Enterprise Road. Priority, the government said, shall be given to residents of Mukuru informal settlements during allocation.
Today’s handover marked a major milestone in Kenya Kwanza Government’s Affordable Housing Programme, a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which seeks to provide decent and affordable housing to millions of Kenyans.

Ruto also pledged to construct a level 4 hospital within the new Mukuru Estate Project, so as the residents can benefit from easily accessible healthcare services.
“Mbali na manyumba mko na soko, mall, street mnaweza kufanya shopping, tutajenga level 4 hospital hapa iwasaidie. Tutakuwa na shule ya chekechea, JSS, Sekondari hapa. Watoto wenyu hawataenda kusoma tena mahali penye matope, mahali hakuna usalama. You will be dignified as the people of Kenya.”
