Rescue teams, including the Uasin Gishu County fire brigade, are searching for the body of a third-year male student who drowned in River Kesses on Sunday, 29th March, 2026.
He was attempting to swim with friends.
Eyewitnesses said the student was swept away by strong currents at Kesses Falls shortly after entering the river, which had risen significantly due to recent heavy rains in the region.
The search has now entered its second day, with a multi-agency team led by the Uasin Gishu County fire brigade coordinating recovery efforts.
County Assistant Director of Fire and Disaster Management Fredrick Serem, accompanied by Kesses Sub-County Administrator Nelson Chepkwony, confirmed that the operation remains focused on retrieving the body as quickly as possible.
The two officials urged Moi University students to remain calm and allow divers adequate time to carry out the search without interference.
Tensions, however, remain high after some students attempted to pressure rescue teams and local residents to hasten the process, prompting police to intervene and restore order.
