Nineteen individuals who were arrested for drunk and disorderly behavior in Siaya County are today May 16, 2024 appearing in court.
The arrests took place at a chang’aa den (local term for an informal establishment where homemade liquor is sold).
This followed a crackdown on illicit liquor which was coordinated by the National Government Administration and Kenya Police Service.
The operation also led to the arrest of the den’s owner Lydia Atieno Okuta, who was found in possession of one litre of chang’aa. Additionally, four motorcycles were confiscated during the raid.
The suspects have been detained at Siaya Police Station and are scheduled to appear in court today (Thursday, May 16).
Siaya County Police Commander, Mr Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed that 20 suspects were arrested and would be arraigned and charged.
