Sombre mood as 4 accident victims are laid to rest in Makueni

Grief and sorrow engulfed Nthongoni Village in Kibwezi East, Makueni County, on Saturday, August 22 as four victims of the tragic Kalembwani road accident were laid to rest in an emotional burial attended by families, residents, leaders and mourners.

The four were among seven people who lost their lives in the accident, with their deaths leaving families and the wider community devastated.

The solemn ceremony, held at Kithing’iisyo Primary School grounds, was led by Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., who joined the bereaved families in mourning the loss of their loved ones.

The four victims Peter Mutuku Muasa, Morris Muasya Kimeu, Theophilus Mbuvi Katwa and Benson Nzyoka David were buried amid tears and grief, with mourners describing their deaths as a painful loss to their families and the community.

Governor Kilonzo assured the bereaved families that the Makueni County Government would continue to stand with them during the difficult period, offering support as they come to terms with the loss.

He also commended county health workers for their response following the accident, saying their efforts demonstrated the commitment of medical teams to supporting victims and residents during emergencies.

The governor also used the solemn occasion to extend his condolences to Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu, who is mourning the death of her husband, former High Court Judge Justice Joseph Mbalu Mutava.
