PSC announces 4,000 internship opportunities in the State Department for Housing: How to apply

In a major opportunity for recent graduates, the Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced 4,000 internship positions in the State Department for Housing and Urban Development. This initiative is aimed at equipping young professionals with practical experience across a broad range of disciplines under the Affordable Housing Programme.

According to the official notice, the internship programme, referred to as cohort 1, will span 41 professional areas, including Architecture (300) positions, Civil Engineering (200), Construction Management (250), Social Development (165), and Urban and Regional Planning (150). Other disciplines with available slots include Accounting, Legal, Communication and Branding, Digital Marketing, Quantity Surveying, Property Management, and Data Science.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized institution and must have also graduated no earlier than 2018. Additionally, candidates are required to be proficient in computer skills.

The internship, which is set to last for 12 months (non-renewable), comes with responsibilities such as documenting experiences at the project sites, supporting mentorship activities, and contributing to the delivery of affordable housing projects across the country. ” The interns will be expected to complete duties mutually agreed upon and assigned by supervisors,” read the PSC statement.

Successful applicants will receive a stipend, determined by the government, and a certificate upon completion of the programme, as confirmation of their participation and contribution.

The PSC emphasized that the internship programme is designed not only to provide technical experience but also to enhance the interns’ capacity for public service delivery. “Actively participating in mentorship and assigned responsibilities is key to the programme,” the commission stated.

Interested and qualified candidates are urged to apply online via the Public Service Commission job portal at www.publicservice.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke before the deadline on 6th September 2025.

This announcement offers a vital stepping stone for young professionals looking to launch their careers in Kenya’s public sector and contribute to national development goals.
