A man suspected of murdering Sheila Odoyo in Athi River has been arrested in Tanzania following a two-year manhunt involving Kenyan and Tanzanian law enforcement agencies.
The suspect, identified as Jackson Otieno Bambo, also known as James Babu Olang, is the deceased’s husband. He was arrested in Kirongwe, Shirati District, where he was reportedly operating a club about 70 kilometres from the Muhuru border point.
Odoyo was found murdered inside her house on May 9, 2024, prompting a search for her suspected killer.
Acting on intelligence that placed the fugitive in Tanzania, detectives from Athi River, working with officers from Nyatike and Tanzanian law enforcement, conducted a joint operation that led to his arrest.
At the time of his arrest, Bambo was reportedly found in possession of a Tanzanian national identity card bearing the name James Babu Olang. The document forms part of the ongoing inquiries.
He was initially booked at Nyatike Police Station before being transferred to Athi River Police Station, where he remains in custody pending arraignment on a murder charge.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case, which had remained unresolved since Odoyo’s death.
The suspect is yet to face the murder charge in court and remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
