“There shall be nothing to hide” – Gov’t assures Kenyans on investigations into Jirongo’s death

The Government will do all it can within its means to establish the truth behind the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has assured.

Mudavadi has called for patience amongst Kenyans, as investigating agencies piece up the evidence obtained in relation to Jirongo’s death.

Mudavadi — who delivered President William Ruto’s message of condolence during the funeral service in Lumakanda, Kakamega County, on Tuesday, December 30 — said it is Government’s duty to ensure records are set straight.

“Jirongo’s death is so unfortunate and a matter of concern to all. We want everything to do with his death laid bare, iwe wazi. If there was foul play, the ones who were involved in the foul play will be targeted. If it was not foul play, then God’s will shall prevail.” he told the mourners.

Mudavadi said the Government is not taking anything for granted as it has listened to the concerns of Kenyans over the matter from the first day when Jirongo was pronounced dead.

“We want to state as Government, there shall be nothing to hide. We have to bring everything out. The agencies that are involved with investigations, and I can see the Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli present here and others should make sure the process is completed efficiently and all the facts pieced together.” Mudavadi urged.

“Don’t play to the gallery on such an important matter. Let everything be brought to the fore so that nobody will go away in any doubt whatsoever, as to this very unfortunate situation.” he added.

On Monday Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli said detectives are deploying all available methods to establish the truth behind the crash, urging Kenyans to remain patient and avoid unnecessary speculation.

He spoke at Jiriongo’s Maili Saba home in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

He assured the nation that the government is fully committed to conducting a thorough, transparent, and speedy investigation into the fatal accident.

“As the government, we will do the needful. A forensic investigation is already underway, and we will leave no stone unturned until all the facts are established,” said Masengeli.

Jirongo who was laid to rest at his Lumakanda home, has been eulogized as a relentless go-getter, a consummate politician and a seasoned businessman who refused to be bowed, let alone defeated, by life’s challenges.

In a condolence message read by the Prime CS on behalf of President William Ruto, Jirongo was described as an indefatigable fighter in every sense: vivacious in spirit, bold in ambition, and endlessly entrepreneurial.

“His energy was infectious, his ideas expansive, and his belief in possibility steadfast. Above all, Cyrus was renowned for his generosity. He gave freely of his time, his resources, and his trust, always willing to uplift others and open doors for those seeking opportunity. Many lives were touched by his kindness, mentorship, and readiness to stand with others in moments of need,” read part of the President’s condolence message.

“Never one to shrink from a tough challenge or a grand vision, he lived life on his own terms and leaves behind an indelible mark on his family, his friends, and our political landscape.” said President Ruto.

On his part Mudavadi said Jirongo will be remembered as a dynamic and fearless politician who captured national attention in his prime, a man whose agility, courage, and boldness extended well beyond politics into entrepreneurship and deep community engagement.

“His life was a powerful reminder that leadership is not confined to office, it is lived through impact, conviction, and service to others.” said Mudavadi.

“We have come here to mourn our brother, to show respect and encourage you as a family. May the Lord continue to comfort and strengthen the family, Mama Anne Kanini, Mama Christine Nyokabi, Mama Anne Lanoi, together with your children and all relatives.” he added.

On the political rhetoric, Mudavadi warned that such platforms should not be used to advance political agenda, but be treated as a special occasion to grieve with the family.
