Three people have been confirmed dead after a building collapsed in Highrise area, Kibera, Nairobi County on Wednesday, April 8.
Several other people were rescued from the debris and rushed to Mbagathi Hospital for treatment, even as authorities fear that more victims could still be trapped under the rubble.
The ill-fated building is reportedly part of a government-led slum clearance program. It is reported that some individuals were inside the structure attempting to salvage metal and other belongings before it gave way.
The exact number of people who were inside the building at the time of the collapse has not yet been confirmed.
Nairobi County Chief Officer in Charge of Disaster Management and Response Bramwel Simiyu says six persons have been rescued.
Response teams remain on site as search and rescue mission continue.
