TikTok removes over 800,000 videos in Kenya for violating community guidelines

TikTok removed more than 884,000 videos uploaded in Kenya during the first quarter of 2026 for violating its Community Guidelines, according to the platform’s latest Transparency Report.

The report shows that 884,591 videos were taken down between January and March 2026.

TikTok said 99.7 per cent of the videos were detected and removed before users reported them, while 96.3 per cent were removed within 24 hours of being posted.

The platform also removed 48,739 accounts suspected to belong to children under the age of 13 as part of efforts to enforce its minimum age policy and improve online safety.

In addition, TikTok interrupted 103,847 LIVE sessions in Kenya after finding they violated the platform’s Community Guidelines.

Globally, TikTok removed more than 184 million videos during the same period, representing about 0.5 per cent of all uploaded content.

Of these, more than 178 million were removed through automated moderation systems, while 8.8 million videos were later reinstated after further review.

The company also stepped-up efforts to tackle harmful AI-generated content, removing 14,261 videos worldwide for violating its edited media and AI-generated content policy.

TikTok said creators are required to label realistic AI-generated content using creator tools and automated detection systems.

The platform added that it has joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to support greater transparency in AI-generated content.

According to the company, its AI content labelling system has already been applied to more than three billion videos.

TikTok said it remains committed to keeping the platform safe by using a combination of automated technology and human moderation teams to remove harmful content, including misinformation and hate speech.
